AI cybersecurity startup Armadin said on Thursday it has raised $255.5 million in a Series B funding round that values the company at more than $2.5 billion, as venture investors pour large sums into defences against AI-driven cyberattacks.

The round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, Reuters reported. New investors Bain Capital Ventures and Redpoint joined existing backers including Google Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Menlo Ventures and In-Q-Tel. The latest capital injection takes Armadin's total funding to $445 million.

The company said it will deploy the fresh capital to scale its platform, expand research initiatives, strengthen training programmes and bolster its go-to-market operations.

Armadin deploys a swarm of autonomous artificial intelligence agents that simulate hacker tactics to identify vulnerabilities in customer systems — an approach that leans into the same AI advances that security teams are racing to defend against.

The company was founded by chief executive Kevin Mandia, who previously founded cybersecurity firm Mandiant before selling it to Google.

The funding underlines how quickly AI security has become one of venture capital's hottest categories. Security budgets are shifting as companies confront both AI-powered attacks and the risks of deploying their own AI agents — a convergence that startups like Armadin are betting will keep demand for automated, agent-driven defence rising.
