Breaking: Two Infiltrators Killed as Army Foils Infiltration Bid on LoC in Keran Sector

Srinagar — Army troops foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Keran sector of Kupwara district early on Saturday, killing two infiltrators after an exchange of fire, officials said.

According to Army sources quoted by IANS, troops picked up suspicious movement in the Jumagund area of the Keran sector at around 3:30 a.m. The infiltrators were challenged, and an exchange of fire followed. The two were shot as they tried to rush back towards the Pakistani side of the LoC, and their bodies are lying on the other side of the fence, the sources said.

A search operation was underway in the area to check whether more infiltrators were part of the group. No Army casualties were reported in the incident.

Heightened vigil

The Keran sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district sits along the Line of Control and has seen repeated infiltration attempts over the years. The Army maintains a heightened vigil along the fence line there, combining surveillance with foot patrols to detect movement across the border.

Infiltration attempts in this belt typically rise in the weeks before winter sets in, when heavy snow closes the higher mountain passes and crossings become far harder.

Developing situation

No further details, including the identities of the slain infiltrators, had been released at the time of reporting, and the Army had not issued a formal statement beyond what officials shared with the media. The search operation was continuing when the reports were filed.
