The Central Board of Film Certification has passed the Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson thriller Verity with an 'A' certificate after ordering cuts to its intimate scenes, Bollywood Hungama reported exclusively on Tuesday.

The CBFC's Examining Committee asked the makers to "suitably modify" the intimate visuals by removing the explicit portions. As a result, 23 seconds of the intimate scene were deleted — and according to sources, most of the deleted portion comes from the much-talked-about make-out sequence between Hathaway and Johnson. The board also ordered anti-smoking and anti-alcohol static messages in every shot where characters are seen smoking or drinking, asked for the visuals of an e-cigarette to be deleted, and told the makers to blur the brand name of a medicine.

Once these changes were made, the CBFC cleared the film on September 29. The certified runtime, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 118.41 minutes — 1 hour, 58 minutes and 41 seconds.

About the film

Directed by Michael Showalter and adapted from Colleen Hoover's bestselling 2018 novel, Verity also stars Josh Hartnett. It follows a struggling writer who is hired to complete the novels of a bestselling author after the latter slips into a coma. The film will have paid previews on the evening of October 1, followed by a full theatrical release on October 2.
