PC gamers may not have to wait long for Grand Theft Auto VI after all. A new report says Rockstar Games plans to launch the PC version within the first three months of 2027 — a dramatic break from the studio's history of making PC players wait a year or more.

GamesBeat's Alexander Lee reported on October 13 that Rockstar is targeting a Q1 2027 PC release, citing four industry sources familiar with the studio's plans who spoke on condition of anonymity. If accurate, the PC version would arrive sometime between January and March 2027, only a few months after the scheduled console launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version and has not responded to requests for comment, so the report remains unconfirmed for now.
A break from tradition
The timeline would mark the shortest console-to-PC gap in Grand Theft Auto history. GTA V launched on consoles in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 2015 — about 19 months later. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on consoles in October 2018 and on PC in November 2019, more than a year after that. Rockstar's earliest ports, from GTA III to GTA IV, each took around seven months.
Why the rush this time
The report points to the growing importance of PC gaming and user-generated content in Rockstar's long-term plans. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg in May that PC can account for 45% to 50% of sales on some titles, even as he said Rockstar "always starts on console" to serve its core audience first.
