(Spoilers ahead.) The biggest talking point of Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer 2, which released in theatres on Thursday, is Hrithik Roshan's special appearance as Roddy — a swaggering new character who arrives at a crucial moment to rescue Rajinikanth's Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, in one of the film's most discussed sequences.
Who is Roddy?
When Tiger Muthuvel Pandian is painted into a corner — his trusted allies Narasimha (Shiva Rajkumar), Mathew (Mohanlal) and Kamdev (Jackie Shroff) stretched thin as Bodhi Kalpak (S.J. Suryah) closes in — a phone call brings Roddy into the picture.
Dressed in a workman jumpsuit with a new hairstyle and piercings, Roddy arrives with four henchwomen to turn the tide when Muthu's family is in danger. He tells Muthu that he has never forgotten being helped 20 years earlier. Hrithik speaks Tamil in the sequence, which first-day viewers have been praising on social media.
The homages
The cameo is packed with meta touches. Roddy tucks his sunglasses behind his shirt collar — a gesture that instantly recalls Salman Khan's Chulbul Pandey styling in the Dabangg films — and performs Rajinikanth's trademark sunglasses flip while walking alongside the superstar himself, a moment fans have lapped up in theatres.
The appearance also reunites Hrithik and Rajinikanth nearly 40 years after the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada, in which a 12-year-old Hrithik played Govind, a young boy adopted by Rajinikanth's character. Hrithik had said in January 2025 that he wanted to work with Rajinikanth again.
'Jailer 3' loading
While the first Jailer ended without signalling a sequel, Jailer 2 closes with a clear setup — its final scene features Vijay Sethupathi, pointing the franchise toward a third instalment. The cameo reveals, which circulated on X ahead of release, turned out to be accurate, and the film has opened on a strong note with first-day viewers calling Hrithik's appearance "pure fire".
