Pranavi Urs Wins Historic First Women's Golf Gold for India at Asian Games 2026, Adds Team Silver

Pranavi Urs scripted history at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday, becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win an individual gold medal at the continental showpiece. The 23-year-old from Mysuru held her nerve in a tense final round at the Kasugai Country Club's East Course, finishing at 15-under 265 to win by a single stroke.

From triple bogey to gold

Pranavi began the final round with a three-shot overnight lead, but her advantage vanished early when she carded a triple bogey on the third hole. China’s Yin Ruoning, who birdied the same hole, closed in, while Singapore’s Shannon Tan — three behind at the start — also stayed in the medal fight.

The Indian responded with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes to climb back to the top of the leaderboard. She produced crucial par putts over the final holes and closed with an even-par 70 on the 18th to seal gold at 15-under, with Yin and Tan finishing a stroke behind on 14-under.

"I like being the first to do things. People will come along to do more, but the first will always be the first," an emotional Pranavi said after the win.

Team silver and a 24-year wait

Her individual triumph also powered India to the silver medal in the women's team event. Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar finished on 14-under 546, with the best two scores of each round counting toward the team total. Aditi produced India's best final-round score with a 67, while Diksha carded 77. China took team gold at 22-under 538.

The gold is India's first in golf at the Asian Games — in the men's or women's individual events — since Shiv Kapur won the men's title in 2002. Earlier in the day, 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod had won gold in the women's individual recurve archery, and India's medal tally reached 79, including 18 gold, at the time of reporting.
