Australian singer-songwriter Sia has sold a 50 per cent stake in her music catalogue to Swedish entertainment investment firm Pophouse in a deal reportedly worth $180 million, one of the biggest catalog transactions of the year.
TMZ first reported the deal, which was later confirmed by Rolling Stone, and Sia herself acknowledged the partnership on Instagram on Thursday, October 1. "Today's truly a professional milestone," she wrote, adding that she looks forward to sharing "new songs, new ideas, and my wealth with those who need it."
The agreement covers publishing and master recording rights to a catalogue that includes global hits such as "Chandelier," "Cheap Thrills," "Elastic Heart" and "Titanium," though Sia's name and likeness are excluded, according to Rolling Stone. The deal also opens the door to a creative collaboration: Pophouse, co-founded by ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus, will work with Sia on a digital avatar production built around her music and vocals, though the show is not expected to debut for at least a couple of years.
Divorce settlement terms
The financial details come with a personal twist. According to documents obtained by TMZ, the $180 million payout is split by when the tracks were written. Sia will receive $165 million for songs recorded before her marriage to Dan Bernad, who has reportedly waived any claim to that sum in exchange for a direct $1 million payout. Sia filed for divorce from Bernad in March 2025.
The remaining $15 million, covering songs written during the marriage, will be held in escrow until the former couple reaches an agreement or resolves the matter in court.
Sia's catalogue is estimated to generate around $18 million a year in songwriting and performance royalties, per Rolling Stone. Pophouse has been on an acquisition run, previously taking a majority share of Cyndi Lauper's catalogue, KISS's entire catalogue and brand, a majority stake in Tina Turner's music interests and Iron Maiden's publishing and master rights.
