Truth Social, the social media platform launched by US President Donald Trump, has seen its daily traffic fall by more than 30 per cent over the past year, even as the president himself posts more frequently ahead of the November midterm elections, according to data from digital intelligence firm Similarweb.
A steep drop in daily users
The platform averaged roughly 260,000 daily users last month, down sharply from its peak of 420,000 daily users in June 2025, Similarweb's figures show. The decline comes at a time when Trump treats Truth Social as his primary personal megaphone: according to a report in The Independent, the president published around 25 posts within a few hours on Wednesday, October 14. Among them was an AI-generated video of Trump wrestling a tiger, posted days after a man was mauled to death by a tiger in the United Kingdom, drawing backlash. Trump remains the platform's most-followed account with more than 13 million followers.
Financial strain behind the scenes
The traffic slide mirrors deepening financial strain at Truth Social's parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group. In the first quarter of this year, the company reported a net loss of more than $405 million against net sales of just over $871,000, attributing the loss largely to unrealised losses on digital assets and equity securities of $368.7 million, accreted interest of $11.5 million and stock-based compensation of $11.8 million. The Trump family owns nearly half of the company, and its annual losses climbed past $712 million in 2025, up from $400.9 million in 2024. A company spokesperson dismissed the Similarweb metrics in response to the Washington Post's reporting, accusing the newspaper of systemic media bias against the service and its owner.
Falling behind rivals
The decline leaves Truth Social far behind established competitors: Facebook counts more than 2 billion daily users and X, formerly Twitter, has more than 130 million daily users worldwide. Trump launched Truth Social in February 2022 after being banned from major platforms following the January 2021 attack on the US Capitol, saying it would "stand up to Big Tech". With the midterms now weeks away, the question is whether the president's most loyal online audience is quietly drifting away.
