Sidharth Malhotra's fantasy thriller Vvaan – Force of the Forrest has closed its first week at the Indian box office with Rs 53.50 crore in net collections in India and Rs 69.07 crore gross worldwide, according to trade data cited by The Indian Express, as the film heads into a second week dominated by the arrival of Drishyam 3.
The film collected Rs 4.40 crore on its seventh day, a 3.5 per cent uptick over the Rs 4.25 crore it earned on day six, Sacnilk figures showed. Vvaan recorded an overall occupancy of 16.96 per cent across its Hindi 2D shows on day seven, spread over 6,966 shows across India, with night shows peaking at 26 per cent and morning shows at 8.08 per cent.
Overseas, the film collected Rs 0.50 crore gross on day seven, taking its total overseas collection to Rs 5.50 crore. Combined with an India gross of Rs 63.57 crore, the worldwide gross now stands at Rs 69.07 crore after seven days.
Vvaan opened in theatres on September 25 with Rs 8 crore in India net collections, gained momentum over its opening weekend — Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 14.35 crore on Sunday, its highest single-day figure — then tapered through the weekdays: Rs 5.25 crore on Monday, Rs 6 crore on Tuesday, Rs 4.25 crore on Wednesday and Rs 4.40 crore on Thursday.
The second week brings a formidable challenger. Ajay Devgn-led Drishyam 3: The Conclusion released on October 2 after a record-breaking advance booking run. Sacnilk data cited by The Indian Express showed the film crossing Rs 60 crore in cumulative India gross advance bookings, with Rs 26.75 crore gross in day-one advance sales recorded by 8 pm on October 1 across 14,335 shows. Overall, around 14.68 lakh tickets had been sold across 43,651 shows nationwide by that point, with advance bookings gaining pace on the final day before release.
The strong pre-sales for Drishyam 3 could squeeze Vvaan's screen count and occupancy as the Ajay Devgn starrer takes over the box-office race. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, Vvaan – Force of the Forrest stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia alongside Anup Soni, Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari and Maniesh Paul. The fantasy thriller blends supernatural, mythology, action and thriller elements drawn from Indian folklore associated with the Van Devi Temple in Bihta, near Patna.
