Ajay Devgn has begun filming his next action drama, 'Chauhaan', in Kargil, Ladakh, marking his return to the region 23 years after shooting J P Dutta's war film 'LOC: Kargil' there in 2003.
According to reports, the actor arrived in Ladakh a few days ago and has already started shooting key scenes in Kargil. The production has secured the necessary permissions, and the cold mountain weather is expected to lend the film's sequences an authentic feel.
What the film is about
Directed by Neeraj Yadav, 'Chauhaan' is described as an action drama set against the backdrop of unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. Reports say the story explores the challenges faced by security personnel and police while dealing with stone-pelting incidents and groups involved in unrest in the region, touching on developments following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the banners of Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions, and marks Devgn's first collaboration with Aanand L Rai. The project was announced on June 25, 2026, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Devgn's late father, action director Veeru Devgan.
Teaser and release date
The title announcement teaser, unveiled in June, shows Devgn in a rugged avatar and uses the iconic song 'Jumma Chumma De De', ending with the dialogue: "Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai" (Tell the Pathaans, Chauhaan is coming).
The makers have scheduled the film's theatrical release for October 1, 2027, placing it around the Gandhi Jayanti holiday weekend. Devgn, who is coming off the success of 'Drishyam: The Conclusion', also has other major releases lined up for 2027, making 'Chauhaan' one of the year's most awaited theatrical releases.
