The Board of Control for Cricket in India has denied reports that the first ODI of the upcoming India-Sri Lanka series would be moved from Delhi to Ahmedabad, ending speculation that had circulated across media through the day.

What the BCCI said

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement on Monday that reports suggesting the India-Sri Lanka ODI scheduled in Delhi on December 13 may be shifted to Ahmedabad were not accurate. He added that the match was allotted to Delhi as per standard procedure and that no such decision had been taken by the board.

"Further, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allotted by following a standard policy," Saikia said.

Where the speculation came from

Multiple media reports had suggested that the series opener would be moved to Ahmedabad, where the series finale is scheduled. The reported reason was ongoing construction work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The BCCI's denial puts the venue question to rest for now, with the opener staying in the national capital.

The series schedule

Sri Lanka's tour of India features three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODIs are set for December 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, December 16 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and December 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with the first two starting at 2:00 PM IST.

The T20I leg follows with matches on December 22 in Rajkot, December 24 in Cuttack and December 27 in Pune. India and Sri Lanka have played 171 ODIs against each other, with India winning 99 and Sri Lanka 59, while two ended in ties and 11 produced no result. In T20Is, India lead the head-to-head 24 to 9, with one no-result.
