An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday morning after the pilot transmitted the internationally recognised hijack-alert transponder code, triggering an emergency response and a probe by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Flight AI-2030, operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, landed safely at Jaipur International Airport at around 9:35 am and was moved to a designated isolation bay for security checks. According to DGCA sources cited by local media, the aircraft was squawking code 7500 — the transponder signal used to indicate hijacking or unlawful interference — which was picked up by Ahmedabad air traffic control while the plane was in the Mumbai flight information region. Delhi airport's war room then took the decision to divert the flight to Jaipur as a precaution.
Conflicting accounts of the trigger
While aviation sources pointed to the brief transmission of the hijack code, police sources offered a different account, telling PTI that the emergency landing followed a reported bomb threat. Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiv Dayal of Malviya Nagar said airport authorities had informed the police about the emergency landing of the Frankfurt–Delhi flight after receiving information about a bomb threat. Preliminary indications, reported by some outlets, suggested the pilot may have activated the alert code by mistake. The exact cause is under investigation.
Aircraft cleared, passengers reboarded
In a statement, Air India said flight AI-2030 was diverted to Jaipur "following a perceived security concern," that the aircraft landed safely, and that security agencies carried out the necessary checks and cleared the aircraft and crew. All passengers were disembarked and underwent security checks before reboarding, with the flight expected to continue its journey to Delhi shortly afterward.
