Lede: The BWF World Junior Championships 2026 get underway today at Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, with Asian under-17 champion Tanvi Patri and silver medallist Shaina Manimuthu leading India's women's singles challenge in the under-19 event.

The singles competition runs from October 12 to 17 in Cairo, as per Olympics.com, with shuttlers below the age of 19 competing. Tanvi Patri enters the tournament as the seventh seed, while Tanvi Reddy Andluri is the 12th seed. Parul Choudhary is also part of India's women's singles contingent.

Men's singles and doubles
In men's singles, third seed Dev Ruparelia — winner of the India Junior International Grand Prix — leads the Indian challenge alongside Nishchal Chand, Jagsher Singh Khangurra and Akhil Reddy Bobba.

India will also field two pairs in boys' doubles, with Aathish Sreenivas PV partnering Yogansh Singh and Pavan Suresh partnering Punith Suresh. In women's doubles, the pairs are Aanya Bisht-Angel Punera and Diya Bheemaiah-Baruni Parshwal; Bisht and Punera were part of the bronze-medal-winning team from the 2025 edition. Divyansh Agrawal-Varna Prabhuanand and Yogansh Singh-Aanya Bisht will compete in mixed doubles.

India's past record
Tanvi Sharma secured a silver medal in girls' singles at the competition last year. Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal, who clinched the girls' singles crown back in 2008, remains the only Indian shuttler to have won gold at the Championships.
