The Central Bureau of Investigation has busted an impersonation and cheating network that targeted public examinations for bank jobs, arresting four key operatives, including a Central Goods and Services Tax inspector.
The agency said the racket operated across Delhi, Bihar, Haryana and West Bengal. The CBI's Special Task Branch in Mumbai carried out coordinated raids across the states after registering a case on a complaint filed by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, the agency that conducts recruitment exams for public-sector banks.
How the racket worked
According to the CBI, the accused fraudulently infiltrated multiple stages of the selection process, including written examinations and interviews, by physically posing as genuine candidates. The agency said the impersonation undermined the integrity of public examinations and deprived genuine, hardworking aspirants of their rightful opportunities.
Officials described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in unmasking what they called a habitual impersonation syndicate operating across several states.
Investigation continues
The CBI said its investigation is continuing, with efforts underway to identify and establish the role of other individuals connected with the alleged racket.
