Chase Briscoe won the NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 4, holding off a hard-charging Kyle Larson to score his second victory of the 2026 season and the seventh of his Cup career.
Larson made a run at Briscoe in the closing laps, reprising their battle from the previous week at Kansas Speedway, but Briscoe blocked him just enough to stave off a last-second move. Larson hit the wall on the exit of the final corner and still crossed the line second, while Tyler Reddick spun through the infield grass after contact with Larson and finished third.
"What an amazing day," Briscoe said on the USA Network telecast. "I hope that was a good race. From my seat there at the end, I don't know what more you could want from a cat-and-mouse standpoint."
A day to forget for Hamlin
The biggest story besides Briscoe's win was the struggles of pole-sitter Denny Hamlin. In line to earn stage points in stage one, Hamlin spun on lap 88 — with NASCAR not throwing the caution — and both he and Larson were shut out from stage-one points. Hamlin's car then stalled on track, forcing him to restart 23rd for the final stage, and he could only climb back to 16th.
Hamlin now trails Larson by 40 points with five races remaining. Austin Cindric, Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, Shane van Gisbergen and Joey Logano rounded out the top 10.
The Cup Series returns on October 11 at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 400 at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.
