Delhi Government Opens AI Training Centre for Officers; First Programmes Begin October 15

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has opened a dedicated training centre to teach its officers how to use artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in their daily administrative work, with the first capacity-building programmes scheduled to begin on October 15.

Information Technology Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh inaugurated the AI Training Centre at Vikas Bhawan in Civil Lines on Wednesday. The centre will provide hands-on instruction to officials from different departments of the Delhi government.

The practical, application-oriented courses will cover AI-assisted official drafting, data analysis, prompt engineering and the creation of presentations using AI, according to the Information Technology Department. Training will also address cybersecurity and responsible AI practices.

During the inauguration, officials were introduced to widely used AI tools including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and DeepSeek, with the focus on everyday use cases inside government offices where the technology can improve productivity and efficiency.

**Minister stresses data safety**

Singh said the goal was to make government officers "AI-ready" while keeping security, confidentiality and responsible use non-negotiable. He cautioned officials against uploading confidential government material, tender documents, personal information or details of proposed schemes and concepts to AI platforms without adequate safeguards.

"AI can assist an officer in drafting, analysis, presentations and several routine tasks, but government information cannot be handled casually," the minister said, adding that officials need to understand what information may be shared with AI tools and what must never be uploaded.

The initiative shifts AI adoption from pilot projects into the routine functioning of Delhi's departments, where tasks such as drafting documents, organising information and analysing data are common across offices.
