Delhi Police Bust Two Fake Job-Placement Call Centres Near Shadipur Metro, Detain 11

Delhi Police have dismantled two suspected fake job-placement call centres operating from a single building in Ranjit Nagar near the Shadipur Metro station, detaining 11 people in connection with an advance-fee recruitment scam that allegedly preyed on unemployed job seekers.

How the alleged scam worked

According to police, the two syndicates sourced personal details of job seekers from online recruitment platforms and used them to make targeted calls posing as recruiters. Callers dangled attractive employment offers and then demanded registration or processing fees, typically between Rs 1,200 and Rs 3,500, under different pretexts. After collecting the money, the operators allegedly kept in touch with victims for a few days, assuring them that their applications were progressing, before cutting off all contact without delivering any placement.

Police said the operatives could produce no corporate authorisation letters, placement agreements or records of candidates who had actually been placed when asked to establish the legitimacy of their recruitment activity.

Two raids in the same building

The action began on October 3, when the central district's Special Staff and Cyber teams received information about a suspected fake job-placement centre at the Lal Ratan building. Technical analysis showed a significant volume of calls linked to suspected job-placement activity originating from the location, following which the facility was raided and six people, including four women, were detained.

In a separate operation based on specific intelligence, a joint team raided a second suspected call centre in the same building, where five men were found working from calling cubicles. Police allegedly found job-seeker data and active calling applications at the first centre, and Xlite internet-based calling software installed on computers at the second.

What was seized

Officers seized 13 computer systems, five mobile phones, calling applications, job-seeker data and digital evidence related to suspected financial transactions from the two premises. A case has been registered under Sections 319(2), 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Ranjit Nagar police station. Police said further investigation is underway to identify the alleged owners and masterminds behind the two operations, trace the source of the job-seeker data and examine financial transactions. All 11 detained persons remain accused, not convicted.
