Delhi Police Registers Over 20 FIRs Over Saturday's Protest-Related Incidents; Six Personnel Injured

Delhi Police has registered more than 20 first information reports (FIRs) in connection with the protest-related incidents in the national capital on Saturday, officials said on Sunday. The cases have been filed at several police stations in the New Delhi district, including Parliament Street, Barakhamba and Connaught Place.

The allegations include disturbing public order, obstructing government work and attacking police personnel. Crime Bureau head Manoj Verma said police were examining CCTV recordings and video footage to identify those allegedly involved in the disturbances. Police have said strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible.

Six personnel injured

Six police personnel were reportedly injured in stone-pelting near Hanuman Lane in Connaught Place the previous day. Delhi Police also issued an advisory warning people against circulating misleading and unverified videos on social media, saying some clips being shared were from past incidents, other states or were AI-generated to provoke unrest.

Security remains heightened across Delhi despite the conditional release of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leadership. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita remains in force, with police conducting flag marches, checking vehicles and monitoring the city's borders, metro stations and railway stations. Heavy deployment continues around India Gate, Connaught Place, Parliament Street, Delhi Cantonment, Mandi House and the Ghazipur and Chilla borders.

Supreme Court hearing

The Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the restrictions placed on the planned protest. During the proceedings, some lawyers raised concerns about their own detention, triggering "shame, shame" slogans in the courtroom. The judges expressed displeasure at the disruption, and senior lawyers reportedly apologised.

The FIRs mark a new phase of legal action a day after mass detentions across Delhi during the CJP's planned protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
