Beijing: Novak Djokovic reached the China Open final on Monday after third seed Daniil Medvedev was defaulted from their semifinal while trailing 7-5, 5-3, Reuters reported.

Medvedev struck a ball in frustration into the crowd and appeared to strike a spectator in the head, according to Reuters and Field Level Media, prompting the default. No confirmed injury report was available at the time of reporting.

Unbeaten run continues

The 39-year-old Djokovic improved his unbeaten record at the Beijing tournament to 33-0. The veteran is seeking his 102nd career ATP Tour title in Tuesday's final.

He will face fifth seed Alex de Minaur of Australia, who advanced when Poland's Hubert Hurkacz retired from their semifinal because of injury with de Minaur leading 6-4, 3-2.

Head-to-head edge

Djokovic leads de Minaur 3-1 in their career meetings. The final, scheduled for Tuesday, pits Djokovic's experience against one of the tour's most consistent performers this season.

In Tokyo, meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz beat Jaume Munar 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in 2 hours 31 minutes to reach the Japan Open final against Jiri Lehecka, Reuters reported.
