The Red and Golds opened their group-stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Jordan's Al-Hussein, letting a two-goal half-time lead slip after the break. A continental homecoming

Tonight is East Bengal's first home fixture in the group stage and their first appearance in Asia's second-tier club competition since 2015, when it was known as the AFC Cup. The Kolkata club qualified for the group stage with a 4-1 victory over Kuwait's Al Arabi in the preliminary round, adding to their Indian Super League 2025-26 title.

Team news

Head coach Antonio Lopez Habas has confirmed two injury absences: long-term absentee Naorem Mahesh Singh remains unavailable and Effiong Nsungusi is yet to join the squad. Senior defender Anwar Ali is expected to return to the starting XI, though the final line-up will decide his involvement. Al-Shorta are expected to have their full squad available, with Al Saedi, Leonel Ateba and Kingsley Kuku among their attacking options. The match will stream live in India on the FanCode app and website; no television broadcast had been confirmed at the time of writing.
