New Zealand opener Jeet Raval has announced his retirement from all professional cricket, bringing down the curtain on an 18-season career, Northern Districts Cricket confirmed on Friday, October 9.

The Ahmedabad-born batsman, 38, will walk away ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season.

A solid Test career

Raval played 24 Tests for the Black Caps between 2016 and 2020, scoring 1,143 runs with one century and seven half-centuries after making his debut against Pakistan at Christchurch in 2016. He was part of New Zealand's inaugural World Test Championship-winning squad in June 2021.

Domestic giant

In domestic cricket he was among New Zealand's most durable openers: 164 first-class matches, 10,127 runs at 37.36 with 23 centuries. He became the 30th New Zealander to reach 10,000 first-class runs when he passed the mark captaining Northern Districts against Auckland in December 2025. His 8,662 Plunket Shield runs are the fourth-highest in the competition's history. His final professional game came for Northern Districts against Central Districts in March 2026.
