Ganesh-starrer Brinda Vihari has moved its release date from October 16 to November 20, with the makers saying the shift is a gesture of solidarity towards the modest Kannada hit Premada Oorali rather than fear of competing releases.

Producer Samruddhi Manjunath announced the change at a press meet in Hubballi, explaining that Premada Oorali — directed by Manoj Kumar — is still drawing strong crowds in its third week. Releasing Brinda Vihari across 1,300 screens on October 16 would take away its theatres, "that is just not right," the producer said.

Not about rival releases

The team was explicit that the decision had nothing to do with being intimidated by festival-season releases from other industries. With big-ticket titles such as Jailer 2 and Ranabaali arriving in the same window, speculation had swirled that Brinda Vihari was retreating from a crowded race. The makers dismissed that reading outright.

Director Srinivas Raju described the film as a musical love story that "needs a proper release," and Ganesh is reported to have fully backed the postponement call.

What comes next

November 20 already has a few other Kannada titles locked in, so the new date may not be entirely free of competition either. But the move has won the makers goodwill within the Kannada film fraternity, where the decision to protect a smaller film's theatrical run is being viewed as an unusually considerate gesture in a crowded release calendar.
