Google is rolling out two new agentic features for its Gemini assistant: "Call for Me," which lets the AI place phone calls to businesses on a user's behalf, and a virtual wardrobe inside Google Photos that digitizes what people wear.
Gemini picks up the phone
Call for Me is launching as an experiment for US Pixel 11 owners with a Gemini subscription who use the beta version of Google's Phone app for Android. Unlike earlier AI calling tools, Gemini can now share personal information the user approves — enabling a broader range of actions such as checking product stock, booking restaurant tables, rescheduling appointments or placing items on hold.
Calls are placed from the user's own number. Gemini introduces itself, navigates automated menus, waits on hold and handles the conversation while the user follows a live transcript and can take over at any time. Google says it is starting small because real-world conversations are nuanced and it needs time to get the feature right.
The feature builds on earlier efforts including the much-discussed 2018 Google Assistant salon demo, last year's Ask for Me, and Pixel tools such as Hold for Me and Direct My Call. The launch comes as rival agents such as Meta's Muse and Instinct also gain calling abilities.
A wardrobe from your photos
Separately, Google Photos has made its AI-powered virtual closet available to all iOS and Android users in the US, Brazil and India. The tool builds a copy of a user's wardrobe from items worn in their photos, letting them filter by category and mix and match outfits. Google says the data is not shared with third parties such as retailers.
Other Photos updates include a Gemini Spark option to select, brighten and share images with a single prompt for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, more AI Remix templates, an upgraded Markup tool with a redacting pen, and new Moods filters for Android.
