Gujarat Revenue Employees Announce Indefinite Strike From October 7 Over 14 Pending Demands

Revenue employees across Gujarat have announced an indefinite statewide strike beginning Wednesday, October 7, after the state government failed to respond to 14 long-pending demands, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar. The strike announcement follows a call for mass casual leave by the employees on Monday, October 6.

The employees' association says staff including Deputy Mamlatdars, Revenue Talatis, and clerical workers serving in Mamlatdar and Collector offices across the state are part of the agitation, giving it the potential to disrupt routine revenue administration across Gujarat.

The 14 pending demands centre on promotions, transfers, and job charts — the defined duties and workload norms for revenue staff. The association says it has made 38 written and oral representations to the government over the past year without receiving any positive response, and the employees decided to escalate to an indefinite strike after exhausting that route.

The state government has warned of strict administrative and disciplinary action against employees who join the strike, including the possibility of a service break. Collectors have been instructed to ensure attendance in their offices, the report said.

If the strike goes ahead as announced, work related to land records, property documents, and income and caste certificates could be delayed for farmers and citizens across the state, hitting routine revenue services that large sections of the public depend on.
