The most unlikely box-office phenomenon in recent Indian cinema has crossed another milestone: Hanuman Ansh has sailed past Rs 400 crore in worldwide gross collections after completing 52 days in theatres, cementing one of the most remarkable theatrical runs of 2026.

The devotional drama, directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and featuring Shobhinaw Satyaa as Neem Karoli Baba, reached a worldwide gross of Rs 401.20 crore by its eighth Sunday, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. In India, its net collection stands at Rs 307.03 crore and its gross at Rs 362.70 crore, with overseas markets contributing Rs 38.50 crore.

From Rs 10 lakh to Rs 400 crore

What makes the run historic is where it began. Made on a modest budget of less than Rs 2 crore, the film opened to barely Rs 10 lakh on its first day and collected around Rs 1.08 crore in its first week. Word of mouth then did something few trade analysts have seen: the film earned Rs 10.40 crore in its third week, Rs 61 crore in week four, Rs 90.25 crore in week five, Rs 80.25 crore in week six and Rs 44.80 crore in its seventh week.

On day 52 — its eighth Sunday — the film collected Rs 9 crore net across 4,387 shows at 46 per cent occupancy, 38.5 per cent higher than its Saturday collection of Rs 6.50 crore. Over the eighth weekend alone it earned Rs 18.85 crore, the biggest eighth weekend for any Indian film, comfortably holding its own against new releases including Sidharth Malhotra's The Vvaan.

A 19,900 per cent profit

At over 200 times its production cost, the film has generated returns the Indian Express describes as a 19,900 per cent profit — arguably the most profitable theatrical run in Indian cinema history on a return-on-investment basis. Its Rs 307 crore India net also makes it one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year.

Even after nearly two months in theatres, the spiritual drama continues to draw audiences, a testament to a slow-burn success story that has defied every rule of the modern release cycle.
