India have completed their Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — sitting fourth in the overall standings as of Saturday evening. All of India's events are done, though the final position could still shift: nearest rivals Uzbekistan, level with India on golds earlier in the day, have one equestrian event remaining on Sunday and must win gold to leapfrog the Indians.

Eleven of India's 21 gold medals came in the final two days of the Games, powering a late surge up the table.

Cricket and hockey deliver double gold

The men's cricket team, led by Shreyas Iyer, beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in the final at Nisshin to defend their Asian Games title. India posted 211 for 6, powered by Abhishek Sharma's blistering 61 off 28 balls and Tilak Varma's unbeaten 51 off 22, before restricting Pakistan to 192 for 6.

The men's hockey team then provided the golden finish, outclassing Malaysia 5-1 in the final to retain the title and seal direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Captain Harmanpreet Singh struck twice, with Hardik Singh converting a penalty stroke and Shilanand Lakra also on target. For the first time, India have won both the men's and women's hockey golds at a single Asian Games.

Historic firsts in archery and golf

The day began with two landmark golds. Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve archery gold at the Asian Games, edging South Korea's Oh Yejin 6-5 in a shoot-off. Golfer Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win individual golf gold, carding 15-under 265, and also helped India to a team silver alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.

Olympic bronze-medallist Aman Sehrawat added wrestling gold in the men's 57kg freestyle, beating Han Chong Song 11-7, while Antim Panghal took silver in the women's 53kg final after a 9-1 loss to Japan's Moe Kiyooka.

India could not match the record 107 medals (28 gold) from Hangzhou 2022, but the closing-day rush — five golds on Saturday alone — ensured the campaign ended on a high. China topped the table, followed by hosts Japan and South Korea.
