Guwahati — Team India arrived in Guwahati on Monday night with their eyes on the prize: a series-clinching victory over West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 30.

The BCCI shared shots of the entire squad walking out of the airport late Monday evening, hours after the team travelled from Thiruvananthapuram, where India sealed a commanding eight-wicket win in the series opener on September 27.

A chase built on two centuries

West Indies batted first in the opener and posted a competitive 295 for 7. Justin Greaves struck a maiden ODI century — 101 off 108 balls — while John Campbell contributed 62 and Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 58.

But India's chase was ruthless. Captain Shubman Gill scored 110 off 108 balls and Virat Kohli produced an unbeaten 139 off just 88 balls, featuring 10 fours and nine sixes. The pair put the West Indies bowling under sustained pressure as India reached 300 for 2 in 41.4 overs, completing the win with 50 balls to spare.

What is at stake on Wednesday

India lead the three-match series 1-0, and a win on September 30 will seal it 2-0 with a game to spare. The third and final ODI is scheduled for October 3 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. The visitors, led by Shai Hope, must win in Guwahati to keep the series alive.

The venue — officially the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium, owned by the Assam Cricket Association — holds 46,000 spectators and has a fitting history with this fixture: it hosted its first men's ODI on October 21, 2018, when India faced West Indies at the same ground.

Attention once again centres on Kohli, whose blistering 139 not out headlined the opener, and on whether the Windies can find an answer to India's middle-overs strangle after their flying start fell apart against spin.
