The All India Football Federation has slashed ticket prices for India's international friendly against two-time world champions Uruguay by around 90 per cent, days after the team's high-profile clash with Brazil at the same Kolkata venue drew a smaller-than-expected crowd.

Tickets for the C2 Left and C2 Right blocks at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, which were priced at Rs 1,999 until Sunday morning, are now available for Rs 199. The price cut was announced by the official Indian football account ahead of Tuesday's match.

Brazil game leaves thousands of seats empty

India's 4-0 defeat to Brazil on October 3 drew an attendance of 51,402 at the venue, well short of its reported capacity of around 85,000. The figure left large sections of the stands unoccupied even though Brazil arrived with stars including Vinicius Jr., Gabriel Magalhaes and Marquinhos. Tickets for the Brazil friendly had ranged from Rs 999 to Rs 15,000, with several sections priced between Rs 6,000 and Rs 9,000.

When asked about the empty seats after the Brazil game, AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey declined to answer, telling The Telegraph Online, "I cannot answer that."

Free passes for fans who missed Messi

The West Bengal government has also announced complimentary passes for around 22,000 people who missed seeing Lionel Messi at his G.O.A.T India Tour event at the stadium last year. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said a WhatsApp number would be announced through which the fans could collect their free tickets for the Uruguay match. Physical passes could be collected on October 5 between 11 am and 5 pm with a government-issued photo ID and the receipt from the previous event.

Tuesday's match is India's third and final friendly of the international window, after the Panama game in Bengaluru on September 26 and the Brazil clash. Uruguay, ranked 20th by FIFA, are coached by former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan.
