IOC Confirms India Among Seven Nations Invited to Present 2036 Olympics Bid in November
The International Olympic Committee confirmed on Tuesday that seven interested parties — Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, and Turkiye — are in continuous dialogue to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and all have been invited to present their projects to the Future Host Commission in November.
The seven were listed in alphabetical order, and the IOC said no new interested parties can join the race for the 2036 Games after October 31, effectively setting the field for the bidding process.
India submitted its Expression of Interest in 2024 and has put forward Ahmedabad as its preferred host city. India has never hosted the Olympic Games, and winning the 2036 bid would be a landmark moment for Indian sport.
The Future Host Commission will assess each project against criteria including the venue master plan, athlete experience, funding strategy, political and public support, delivery capability, and legacy planning.
Under the IOC's current process, the host of the 2036 Games is expected to be elected at an IOC session in mid-2029, giving the contenders nearly three years of technical evaluation and engagement.
