Singer Jasmine Sandlas used her Mohali concert on Saturday to speak out for the LGBTQ+ community and same-sex love, wearing a rainbow-coloured dupatta on stage as a mark of solidarity.

Sandlas was performing in Mohali on October 10 as part of her Dream Girl India Tour when she paused to address the audience on the need to normalise same-sex love. Her remarks came days after the killing of social media influencer and makeup artist Madhusudan, known as Mad Sandhu, in Amritsar on October 3, news that shook Punjab's entertainment circles.

A message of acceptance

Speaking in Punjabi to the live audience, the Dhurandhar singer said she was happy to see Punjabis come together, adding that the community had grown big but also divided, and that it should move forward with love. She said not everyone finds love, and appealed that those who had found their partners must be allowed to live a dignified life, with the freedom to live without fear or judgment.

A video from the concert went viral on social media, drawing wide attention to her stand.

The Mad Sandhu case

Mad Sandhu was shot dead on Loharka Road in Amritsar on October 3 and died during treatment at Fortis Hospital. Police launched an investigation into the killing, and the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested an accused on October 8, according to reports. Further details are yet to be made official by the Punjab Police.

Sandlas, known for her outspoken stage presence, framed her message around kindness, asking the audience to extend compassion to those who found love irrespective of gender.
