Jason Sanjay's first film as a director hit the big screen on October 2, and his family turned out in force for the opening. The 25-year-old filmmaker's debut feature, Sigma, released in theatres across Tamil Nadu, with his mother Sangeetha and sister Divya attending the first-day-first-show at Chennai's Kamala Theatre.
Videos from the venue showed Sangeetha and Divya arriving as fans and moviegoers gathered for the first shows of the day. Jason himself was also seen with his family outside the theatre, marking a major milestone in his young career behind the camera.
A family affair
While father Vijay stayed away from the film's promotional events, his wife and daughter's presence at the theatre offered visible support for Jason as he began his journey as a filmmaker. ABP Live notes that Jason is the son of actor-turned-politician Vijay, currently the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The family's closeness has been a recurring theme in the build-up to the release. At the film's trailer and audio launch, Jason thanked his family for standing by him during the making of the film, saying he wanted to thank his mother, his father — "who is the Chief Minister today" — and his sister Divya.
The film
Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles. The project has drawn attention as the directorial debut of one of the most closely watched young filmmakers in the Tamil industry, and early audience reactions are now pouring in after the first shows.
