Johnny Depp is stepping into one of literature's most iconic miserly roles. The first trailer for "Ebenezer", filmmaker Ti West's darker take on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, released on October 1, giving audiences their first look at Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge.
The adaptation retains the familiar bones of Dickens' 1843 story — the cold-hearted moneylender visited by ghosts across one fateful Christmas Eve — but frames it with a distinctly horror-leaning tone, consistent with West's reputation as a genre filmmaker.
Star-studded ensemble
The film pairs Depp with a heavyweight supporting cast: Ian McKellen plays Jacob Marley, Rupert Grint takes on Bob Cratchit, Sam Claflin portrays Fred, Andrea Riseborough appears as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Tramell Tillman plays the Ghost of Christmas Present.
The project marks another major holiday-season play for a new adaptation of a well-worn classic, arriving in a year already crowded with high-profile releases. Early fan reaction to the trailer has been strongly positive, with the spooky visual treatment drawing particular attention online.
"Ebenezer" is scheduled to hit theatres on November 13, 2026.
