Michael Olise scored two minutes from time as France snatched a 1-0 victory over Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Sunday, while Gennaro Gattuso's Italy recovered in emphatic style with a 4-1 demolition of Turkey in Istanbul.
France leave it late
France, who came into the night on a four-game losing streak in all competitions, dominated possession but struggled to break down a stubborn Belgium side. Olise, who had come on as a late substitute, settled the contest in the 88th minute, sweeping home from a tight angle after good work on the right flank. Belgium's Amadou Onana came closest for the hosts when his header struck the woodwork in the first half.
Italy bounce back
Italy, reeling from back-to-back defeats to begin the group, responded in style. In wet conditions in Istanbul, goals from Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi, Fabiano Parisi and a first Italy goal for teenager Esposito sealed a thumping 4-1 win over Turkey. The result moves Italy level with France on three points in their group, keeping qualification hopes alive.
Group picture
France's win puts them back on track after their difficult start, while Italy's response suggests Gattuso's side is finding its feet. Both teams remain in contention as the group stage progresses. France's relief will be immense after a run of four straight defeats, and the win restores their momentum in a competitive group where every point matters.
