No. 25 Kentucky pulled off one of the upsets of the college football season on Saturday night, edging No. 10 LSU 35-34 in overtime in Lexington after quarterback Kenny Minchey kept the ball himself on a game-winning two-point conversion.

The moment the conversion succeeded, Wildcats fans poured onto the Kroger Field turf to celebrate the top-10 victory — and a handful of them made the night about LSU head coach Lane Kiffin instead. Cameras caught at least three Kentucky supporters following Kiffin as he was escorted off the field, flipping him off on his way out.

Why Kiffin drew the ire

It was not immediately clear what set the fans off. One plausible explanation is Kiffin's status as one of the sport's great lightning rods after his well-documented exit from Mississippi to take the LSU job. Another is a viral — and fake — quote attributed to Minchey that LSU's social accounts had posted to motivate the Tigers' defence: "LSU's defense hasn't seen anyone like us and our offensive line yet."

Kentucky itself acknowledged after the win that the quote was fabricated, which only added a layer of mischief to an already chaotic night.

A costly celebration

The field-storming will not come free. Under updated SEC policies, Kentucky faces a $500,000 fine for the security breach — a price the school will almost certainly be happy to pay after a win of this magnitude.

For LSU, the loss is a gut punch: a top-10 team beaten in overtime by a lower-ranked rival, with its coach jeered off the field. For Kentucky, it is a signature victory that reshapes the SEC race — and a night in Lexington that will be replayed for years.
