Two road accidents struck the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district within half an hour of each other on Saturday, October 3, 2026, killing one tourist and leaving 56 people injured, including nine security personnel, officials said.
Bus collides with hillside near Maroog
A tourist bus travelling from Srinagar to Jammu, bearing a West Bengal registration number, collided with a hillside near Maroog at around 8:50 am after the driver lost control of the vehicle, officials were quoted as saying. One woman passenger was killed in the crash, while 47 others were injured.
The deceased was identified as Jamuna, a resident of West Bengal. The tourists were returning home after a holiday in Kashmir. Four of the injured — Suchitra, Lakshwanti, Kedar Patra and Fouji Ram — were referred to Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu for advanced treatment; the rest are reported stable.
Rescue team's vehicle overturns
A Quick Reaction Team of police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel rushed from the District Police Lines in Ramban to assist in the rescue. The team's own vehicle overturned near Kela Morh, injuring six police personnel and three CRPF jawans. All nine are reported to be in stable condition.
Official response
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed condolences and said he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban to ensure the seriously injured received the best possible treatment.
