Parvathy Thiruvothu's investigative thriller 'Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar' has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the worldwide box office, reaching the milestone on the 17th day of its theatrical run.
The makers announced the achievement through social media on Sunday, September 27. The Malayalam film, directed by Shahad, released on September 11 and is now into its third week in theatres.
**A steady, word-of-mouth climb**
Unlike splashy tentpole releases, the film's run has been built on a slow, sustained build. According to box-office tracker Sacnilk's estimates, 'Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar' opened with Rs 0.85 crore on its first day before surging over its first weekend — collecting Rs 2 crore on its first Saturday and Rs 2.6 crore on its first Sunday. Its first-week India net stood at Rs 11.54 crore.
The momentum held into the second week. Collections reached Rs 20.44 crore by the end of day 14, with Rs 1.95 crore and Rs 2.5 crore coming in on its second Saturday and Sunday respectively. By day 16, Sacnilk estimated the film had collected Rs 21.89 crore in India net and Rs 25.49 crore in India gross. The tracker's current estimates put the film at Rs 22.90 crore India net and Rs 26.66 crore India gross, with the worldwide gross now above Rs 50 crore per the makers.
**The story behind the numbers**
Parvathy plays Aleena, a woman who joins the police force on compassionate grounds following the death of her husband. The plot follows four low-ranking police officers, including Aleena, who become entangled in a dangerous situation after an unexpected encounter and attempt to conceal the truth.
The film's third-week traction makes it one of the notable mid-range Malayalam performers of the season, drawing audiences without the backing of a mega-star opening.
