Paris Saint-Germain tightened their grip on the Champions League table with a pulsating 4-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, in a match that also saw Erling Haaland set a new record for the fastest 60 goals in the competition's history.

The twice-defending champions struck three times inside the opening 35 minutes. Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele scored less than two minutes apart before Vitinha added a third in the 32nd minute, stunning the home crowd.

City fought back after the break. Haaland pulled one back with a 53rd-minute header from Iliman Ndiaye's cross, and after Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG's three-goal cushion with a long-range strike, the Norwegian struck again in the 75th minute from Ayyoub Bouaddi's pass. City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma - facing the club that released him months after he helped PSG win their first Champions League title in 2025 - conceded four but saved a late penalty from Ferran Torres.

Haaland's record night

Haaland's first goal made him the fastest player to 60 Champions League goals, reaching the mark in 60 games and beating Lionel Messi's previous record of 80.

A night of subplots

The match was City's first home game since the club was found guilty of financial-rule breaches - reported as "over 100 charges" by News18 and 114 breaches by CNA/Reuters. City have denied wrongdoing and appealed.

Former City manager Pep Guardiola returned to the Etihad for the first time since his departure in May, watching alongside chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, CEO Ferran Soriano and executive Hugo Viana.

PSG coach Luis Enrique admitted his side had been tested: "They created a huge amount of problems for us today. The team that lost today were perhaps a bit unlucky." City coach Enzo Maresca added: "It has been a bit of a strange game because we conceded two goals in two minutes."

The result leaves PSG top of the table after two Champions League games, with City 17th, three points behind. City had arrived on the back of a 3-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday that kept them top of the Premier League.

Elsewhere on the night, Aston Villa thrashed Fenerbahce 6-0 - their biggest European win - Liverpool beat LASK 6-3 with a Bradley Barcola hat-trick, and Real Madrid edged AS Roma 4-3 thanks to Antonio Rudiger's 90th-minute winner.
