Real Madrid produced a remarkable late turnaround to beat AS Roma 4-3 away from home in the Champions League on Wednesday, scoring three times in the final six minutes to spoil Jose Mourinho's return to the Stadio Olimpico, according to News18 with AFP inputs.

Mourinho, now in charge of the Spanish giants, received an emotional reception from the Roma supporters whose club he guided to the UEFA Conference League title and the Europa League final during a two-and-a-half-year spell. It was Roma's first home Champions League match in more than seven years.

Roma's dream start

The hosts took a deserved lead in the 20th minute when Marten de Roon fired home from 25 yards. Real needed only one clear chance to restore parity: Kylian Mbappe raced through and his deflected effort found the roof of the net within five minutes of Roma's opener.

Gian Piero Gasperini's side returned from the break with renewed intensity. Half-time substitute Rodrigo Mora set up Donyell Malen, who controlled with his first touch and lifted a finish over Thibaut Courtois. Six minutes later Malen powered home again — the goal was initially ruled out for offside but awarded after a VAR review, leaving Roma 3-1 ahead.

Three goals in six minutes

The comeback began when Carlos Espi converted a rebound from close range following a header from a corner. Endrick then powered in another header from a corner two minutes later to level the match. Former Roma defender Antonio Rudiger completed the turnaround in the 90th minute, getting ahead of his marker to finish from close range and silence the home crowd.

The night also belonged to Mbappe, whose equaliser was his 72nd Champions League goal on his 100th appearance in the competition. At 27, he became the youngest player to reach the milestone and moved into the tournament's all-time top five scorers, overtaking Real Madrid great Raul Gonzalez.

Real now have six points from their opening two league-phase matches, while Roma remain on one point.
