The trailer for Udta Teer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, has been unveiled, offering a first look at a spy comedy built around mistaken identity, patriotism and political satire. The film is scheduled to release in theatres across India on October 9, 2026.
Ayushmann plays Bilal, a Pakistani spy who loses his memory after an explosion. When he wakes up, he believes he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer — a mix-up that becomes the film's central comic engine. The tagline sets the tone: "Deshbhakti toh yaad hai… par desh nahi" (he remembers patriotism, but not the country). Bilal begins behaving like a patriotic Indian officer while his bewildered Pakistani handlers struggle to understand what has happened to their trained agent, leading to a series of unusual situations.
Sara Ali Khan plays a counter-terrorism operative who gets drawn into Bilal's unfolding chaos. The trailer suggests the film will blend action set-pieces with humour, using the spy's confusion to poke at questions of loyalty, identity and what patriotism really means.
The team behind it
Udta Teer marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik, who has also written the story. The film is backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with producers Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The supporting cast includes Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev and Suhail Nayyar.
The film also reunites Ayushmann and Sara after Pati Patni Aur Woh Do!, their earlier outing together. With its blend of espionage, comedy and a pointed satirical edge, Udta Teer positions itself as one of the more unusual Hindi releases on the horizon — a spy film where the biggest twist is that the spy no longer knows which side he is on.
