Delhi Capitals on Tuesday announced the appointment of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the franchise's assistant and batting coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season. The role marks the 44-year-old's first formal coaching assignment in professional cricket.
A reunion with Ganguly and Delhi
Yuvraj will work alongside his former captain Sourav Ganguly, who is the franchise's head coach. The appointment also marks Yuvraj's reunion with the Delhi franchise: in 2015, the team — then known as Delhi Daredevils — secured his services for a record Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history at the time. He represented the franchise in all 14 matches that season.
A veteran of 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is, Yuvraj is a multiple World Cup winner and has mentored several established and emerging Indian stars, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh, in recent years.
What they said
"I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals," Yuvraj said in a statement shared by the franchise. "I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me."
Delhi Capitals co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi said the franchise was delighted to welcome Yuvraj, adding that his career, competitive spirit and understanding of the game would make him a tremendous addition to the coaching setup.
